We went to
Chicago this week. I had my one year
post-treatment follow up appointment with Dr. Chang at the Northwestern Medical
College Proton Center (formerly the CDH Proton Center). And on this trip it was so nice to have Johnny
with me – it’s very rare for him to get away from the office. Hannah who I work with at the Hospital stayed
with the dogs and Billy watched the lot.
With the
extra time we had I was able to show Johnny a few of the attractions that I
loved about Naperville. First we went to
the White Chocolate Grill for a wonderful dinner. They have amazing deserts as the name
suggests, but we stuck to our new healthful way of living and declined. Then after dinner we took a little pilgrimage
to the Naperville River Walk. It was so
beautiful we stayed until after sundown.
Just as we were walking past the bell tower the bells chimed…a
celebration of all we’ve come through and an embrace of things to come our
way.
On Monday we
had lunch with our friends Tom and Carrie at the locally famous Naf Naf Grill http://nafnafgrill.com/
It’s a very
affordable Mediterranean style restaurant. The dishes are vibrant and healthy and we
opted for the outside patio which has a nice breeze. All you need to do is mention
Naf Naf to the area locals and their eyes glaze over and they will go on and on
about their favorite meal. The place has
historical roots, but feels fresh and wonderful. We highly recommend it if you’re
in the Naperville area.
Dr. Chang
did not find anything that concerned him at this appointment. I thought (and hoped) my next follow up appointment
would be one year from now, but that was not to be. Sometime in December I will be heading back
to Chicago to see Dr. Chang again.
And most
likely another stop by the Naf Naf Grill.
