Happy Birthday to me

Today is my birthday.  As time passes and I’m getting further away from cancer and treatment and closer to the “magical” 5-year post cancer date, birthdays take on a whole new meaning.
1st I’m still here
2nd I don’t have the luxury of worrying about getting old
3rd If I have any fear it’s not getting old.

So my birthday celebration started last weekend with a visit from Mary Jo and Brian.  We enjoyed hanging out, long walks and a delicious dinner at Mazah followed by a sinful treat of Jeni’s ice cream (Johnny stuck to his keto diet and did not have any ice cream.)  And for those of you keeping track, it’s been a full year since I’ve had any ice cream!

I planned to treat myself this morning by taking an hour and reading some of Wendell Berry’s new book, “Our Only World, Ten Essays”.  But Rose decided to roll in something that the word vile doesn’t even begin to describe.  So instead of the relaxed morning I had planned I gave Rose two separate baths to get rid of the stink.  It wasn’t all bad this morning though, Johnny got me some of my favorite (sugar free) Hnina chocolate as a birthday gift and we’ll spend a quiet evening together tonight.

And speaking of the Former Boyfriend, this was a chemo week.  We didn’t do great with controlling the nausea, but we did the best we have so far.  Fatigue is becoming a bigger issue – thank God for hyperbaric oxygen.  We’re waiting on the latest CEA results to be posted – all prayers gratefully accepted.  The Zangmeister Center has been short staffed lately, and attention to detail has been lacking.  Don't know if this has to do with them opening a new location or what. Sorry, I could go on and on, I shouldn’t have started, but you get the point.

Right now I’m headed out with my neighbor Marilyn to see our friends Jennifer and Lee at End of the Road Farm in Fletcher, Ohio.  They sell some amazing products from their farm and if you’re ever in the area and want to support a very hard working family, stop in and see what is in season.  They’re on Main Street, Fletcher’s small you can’t miss them, just ask around.
