Greetings to
Family and Friends! We started off the
New Year at Thom’s home for some great food and a fun time getting our family
together.
At Thom's with Uncle Denny & Gina |
Here in the Capitol City there’s
a lot on the medical front so I’ll get to it. We had our
consult with Dr. Mark Segal, the Oncologist at the Zangmeister Center. Next week we follow up with his Nurse
Practioner for “teaching”, but the bottom line is Johnny will be on four
chemotherapy drugs: Avastin, Leucovorin, 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) and Irinotecan. The side effects go on and on like a bad
horror movie. His actual chemo will
start the week of the 18th and will continue for three months.
The Former
Boyfriend is transitioning to a ketogenic diet (here’s a link if you want to
check it out http://www.charliefoundation.org/explore-ketogenic-diet/explore-1/introducing-the-diet)
fasting prior to chemotherapy, doing daily
exercise and hyperbaric oxygen therapy dives.
Dom D’Agostino a cancer researcher has found that this combination
decreases tumor cell viability and prolongs survival in metastatic cancer
patients. And as Scotty would say, “We’re
givin’ ‘er all we got!”
Johnny has
also done his hCG test. We’ve sent it to
the Navarro Medical Clinic and we’ll receive the results in a couple of weeks.
Today I had
an appointment with Dr. Kanodia. He’s
pleased with my progress and I will follow up with him again in March. So it’s good news that I have a little break
from my doctor appointments. It gives me
more time to support Johnny during his treatment. This cancer shit is a roller coaster and it
will make you throw up again and again, both figuratively and literally. It is not for the faint of heart. If you’re going down this road you better
have an awesome support system. There
are so many ups and downs and the downs really suck. Thank you so much everyone for being a part
of our lives and our journey. We love
you all.
