Johnny and I now have our own Superhero in our battle with
cancer. On Wednesday we met with Dr.
Eric Serrano for over an hour. We’re
lucky that there are a lot of good doctors in this town, but when your doctor
comes into the room dressed as a superhero (okay a superhero t-shirt) and gives you a hug you can’t help but feel
loved and special. Dr. Eric has so much
fun in the office I don’t believe you can find a photo of him in regular doctor
garb. In our time with Dr. Eric he pulled together a treatment plan that encompasses
hyperbaric oxygen, myers cocktails, a review with additions/deletions of my
supplements and some additional diet recommendations. He went on to cover workouts, symptoms I’ve
been dealing with, prescriptions and addressing cancer and keeping it in check. Everything we’d been hoping for and more.
We went straight from that appointment to see Johnny’s
surgeon Dr. Mark Lindsay. He was pleased
with how Johnny looks but very disappointed to hear that the tumor on Johnnys
liver is growing. Not much he can do,
but he’s a kind caring guy and we’ll see him again in 6 months.
After a morning of appointments we were going to have lunch
with Allen and Roger. Due to some delays
(those of you who know Roger understand) and my own afternoon obligations I
couldn’t make the lunch. So Johnny met
the guys when they touched down at Bolton Field and had a little male bonding
at the Galloway Tavern (sans alcohol).
Then Johnny got the call all family members dread. On the final approach to the Fulton County
Airport Roger and Allen’s beloved plane lost engine power. Al did a great job getting the plane
down. They ended up in a ditch. Allen is cut up and very sore, but also very
grateful to be alive and well. Roger
broke his left femur and is in Medical College Hospital recovering. He sounds great on the phone and he said that
as long as he doesn’t move he’s feeling pretty good. A very
sobering event-but it could have been so much worse.
