Vacation

We thought we’d be posting about our trip to Maine along the way, but the Wifi was sketchy at best so here’s a brief overview of our vacation, which was way too short.

We left on Thursday night in our RV.  Tillie and Rose were a little unsure about the adventure at first, but they settled right in and loved being on vacation too.  We stayed in a funky little town – Old Orchard Beach.  It’s so close to Quebec and has so many visitors from there that all signs are in English and French.  Not much has changed in this  town since the 40’s or 50’s, the businesses are locally owned.

We could walk to the beach every day and we had so many plans for our short trip, long walks, lobster, reading, lighthouses we couldn’t possibly do them all, but we made the most of the time we had.  We were like kids at Disneyland – we were going all day and we would collapse at night.  There’s just not enough time when you’re on vacation.

Some highlights: We never had a bad lobster roll but definitely had our favorites. We stumbled upon the Seashore Trolley Museum.  www.trolleymuseum.org .  Check them out if you get a chance.  They have 365 acres and over 300 pieces of equipment.  We could get up on the trolleys and walk through the cars; they have an observatory for the restoration area and are so dog friendly that Tillie & Rose got to take their first trolley ride in an open air trolley car.

The Cape Elizabeth area was our favorite.  The views were breathtaking from Two Lights State Park and it also has the remains of a WWII seacoast bunker and observation tower.  We had lunch at The Lobster Shack at Two Lights.  They have picnic tables set up outside and we sat there enjoying some of the most beautiful views of the trip. From there we went to Portland Head Light.  It’s a lighthouse that was commissioned by George Washington.

Then we took a drive up Rt. 88 “One of the most beautiful drives in America.”  Rt. 88 led us to Freeport and the home of LL Bean.  LL Bean is not dog friendly and Rose showed her disappointment by leaving a double bagger on the front lawn.

We took off on Tuesday and spent a night in New York State near Lake Ontario.  We got home Wednesday about 5.

On Thursday I met with my Oncologist and she said my blood work looked good, but has scheduled me for an echocardiogram to make sure the adriamycin (the red devil chemo drug) she had me on didn’t do damage to my heart.

Today (Friday) I met with Dr. Kanodia, my Integrative Specialist.  He too is pleased with my progress (I’ve even put on a couple of pounds since my last visit) so he’s upped my exercise, made more changes to my diet, and put more vacation time down as my number one priority!  That’s another reason why I love the guy – he looks at the whole picture.  I’ll see him again in October for a follow-up.  Dr. Kanodia has filmed an episode with the TV show The Doctors.  When I get more information about the air-date I’ll pass it along.
