New GIzmos

Greetings!  We’ve had a rare week free of chemo and doctor appointments.  So today Johnny added NanoVi to his cancer fighting regime.  We’re new to this and haven’t had time to do a lot of research but the little bit that we do know looks promising.  The uptake is that NanoVi technology should give added support to John’s immune system, reduce inflammation and help improve his mitochondrial function.  Another plus is users report that NanoVi helps them gain their energy levels faster- we’ll let you know on that one.  The kind folks at Hyperbaric Oxygen of Dublin have added this service free of charge to their clients.  Here’s the website for anyone who wants to check it out further eng3corp.com.

Otherwise we’ve been catching up from vacation and spending a little time with our family.  Have a great weekend and GO BUCKS!

Home Again

We returned from vacation on Sunday and it was a hard landing.  Monday at 7am Johnny went in for chemo and Tuesday at 7am I had my 6 month check up with my Oncologist.  The good news- both of us had good blood work.  Johnny had his “easiest” chemo session so far- it seems we’ve gotten a little better at mitigating the nausea, and my next appointment is just a check up in six months.

And in other health news, my brother Roger is home and recovering from his colon surgery. He’s “ecstatic” with the results and only has a little tenderness.  He’s taking care of himself and he’s able to go to his favorite local restaurants.

So that leaves me with a little recap of the vacation trip.  A huge surprise was Saratoga Springs.  It’s a booming town filled with great restaurants, a famous race track, tourism and we happened to stumble into the 28th annual Adirondack National Car Show.  But what we loved were the 21 public mineral springs in various locations throughout the town.  No two tastes exactly alike, each one has its own distinct flavor and purported health benefits so we loaded up!

We loved Vermont, New Hampshire, and Upstate New York.  We checked out Million Dollar Beach at Lake George but the dogs really loved Charlie’s Bark Park at our RV camp.  It was the first time either one of us saw Dartmouth University and Dog Mountain/Dog Chapel in Saint Johnsbury was a great little stop.

Now we know the difference between the Green Mountains of Vermont and the White Mountains of New Hampshire.  And we’re still talking about a little Brazilian restaurant we stumbled into in Littleton, New Hampshire that served great homemade food.

If we would have known how beautiful Lake Champlain was we would have organized our trip to spend more time there.  What we saw of it was breath taking and we happened to be reading the book, Valiant Ambition about the relationship between Benedict Arnold and George Washington.  The events in the book took place at Lake Champlain 240 years ago during the same week that we were there.  A very fun little tie in.

Another great stop was at the Roundhouse Bakery and Café.  It has been popularized by the author Jon Katz and we were very excited to finally have the chance to see Cambridge, New York and eat in the café.  After speaking with the owner, Scott Carrino he invited us to his home/bakery.  We couldn’t believe that he invited two people he had just met to his home.  But we’re sure glad he did.  Here’s a link to his property for anyone who wants to check it out:  http://www.pompanuck.org/

Our last stop was a visit with an old college friend, Jackie and her husband, Jim and then we were on our way home.
So we’ll bore you with a few of our favorite vacation photos.  Thanks for all the care and prayers.  We love you all!

What a great week it's been

Wow,  we've put a few miles on the RV this week. And we have a few more to go until we get home. We've seen a touch of the Adirondacks of New York, a lot of a Vermont and ventured into New Hampshire too. We've had a couple minor adventures but they turned out well. For the most part we've just had about as much fun as two people and two dogs possibly could. The girls have thoroughly enjoyed the trip too, especially the stops at Dog Mountain. We've had internet but have disconnected from the crap of the daily news and especially politics. The weather had been near perfect. We could definitely use a few more weeks of this. Unfortunately the former boyfriend goes back for more chemo next week. We've both been feeling great walking up and down trails, eating food and breathing fresh air. For now, back to the campfire. Here' a few pics from our fun. More next week.

Road trip

Only a brief post this weekend, and a day later than usual. First, the medical news. The latest CEA test shows the former boyfriend at 2.3, an all time low. We were so happy we jumped in the RV and left town. Normally we don't disclose travel plans until we get back. But brother Paul and wife Deb are house sitting. So anyone with criminal intent beware, Paul is on patrol. Right now we're at Lake George, NY and heading on to check out as much of Vermont as we can in the allotted time. This far everything has been wonderful. It's also been designed to be one of the most dog friendly vacations ever. So far the girls seem happy. Don't you agree?

Opa!

It’s the 44th annual Greek Festival and the Former Boyfriend and I can’t wait to get there.  For one day only we will be putting the ketogenic diet on hold to indulge in our favorites: tyropita (cheese filled pastry), keftedes (Greek meatballs), gyros, souvlaki (pork marinated in Greek herbs), lamb chops and so much more.   The Festival also has beautiful dancers and storytellers who share the famed tales from mythology.

And then we had very good news on Thursday when Dr. Kanodia told Johnny that he is doing better than all his other cancer patients YEAH! They went over some blood tests and made some supplement changes and upped his infrared sauna time. And we won't tell him about our dining at the Greek Festival. :) Other than that we're looking forward to a peaceful holiday weekend with friends and neighbors and family. Here's to hoping you have a good one too.
